about me

I didn’t always know I wanted to be a writer. In fact, I didn’t know what I wanted to be. The circumstances in which I signed up for a fiction workshop were something like, “I need units. This is the only class available.” And, immediately after realizing what said class entailed, I was certain I would drop the class and never look back. But, again, I needed the units, and everything else was full.

The story goes that I loved the class, loved putting my pen to paper, loved telling stories. Suddenly the girl searching for some semblance of direction found something even better: she found what she loved.

I pursued that love into grad school, where I earned my MFA from Cal State Long Beach. My stories tend to center on the relationship between mothers and daughters, and the way that relationship can shape us as individuals and women.

Born and raised in Southern California, I now reside in Franklin, Tennessee. I’m a store manager by day, writer by night. When I’m not working or writing, I’m drinking way too much coffee and spending time with my sister, Hannah, and our two cats, Ernest and Marilynne.
